It's been one heck of a year so far for acclaimed writer turned acclaimed poker player Maria Konnikova, and the Team PokerStars Pro could be set to add another big result to her résumé.
As Konnikova herself told us via her Twitter, she's now through to Day 4 and the final 24 players in the World Poker Tour (WPT) Borgata Poker Open.
This is the face I make when I survive to make the final 24 of the @WPT@BorgataPoker Main Event. Day 4 starts at noon tomorrow. Let's go!!! And now, 😴😴 pic.twitter.com/U560jrX5Vt
— Maria Konnikova (@mkonnikova) September 20, 2018New York Times best-selling author Konnikova decided to enter the poker world in 2017 with little to no knowledge of the game; an effort to discover how the poker skills she'd pick up could be transferred to live a more successful life away from the tables, which she'd then outline in her upcoming book, 'The Biggest Bluff'.
Incredibly, through hard work and perseverance, Konnikova's game progressed quicker than any of us could have predicted. At the 2018 PCA in January, she took down the $1,650 National event for $84,600 and a $30,000 Platinum Pass, her biggest score to date. Since then, she has continued to travel the poker circuit, even dabbling some High Rollers.

This $3,500 buy-in event attracted 1,075 entrants, and created a prize pool of $3,441,075. All remaining 24 players are guaranteed $20,565 when they return today, but that amount pales in comparison to the $575,112 set aside for the eventual champ.
Konnikova will return 19th in chips with a stack of 725,000 and blinds resuming at 15K/25K with a 25K big blind ante. With 29 big blinds, Konnikova is certainly still in with a shot.

There was a nice little rush to the tables over the last level to push the prize pool higher. We found Katie Stone among the new players taking a seat this afternoon.

She is also the newest BorgataPoker.com ambassador.
Stone is an online guru but she’s no slouch in the live game either. After taking some time off, she cashed in 11 Borgata tournaments in 2017 including two titles; the Borgata Summer Poker Open Ladies Event and the Borgata Fall Poker Open $260+$40 Deepstack event. She also had five other final table appearances with big scores in October’s $100,000 Saturday Series event and the June Deep Stacks Challenge $350+$50 Deeper Stack $50,000 Guarantee tournament.
