Bridge size cards vs poker size

Rather than having T-shirts in sizes 4, 5, 6 etc, there are just a few sizes: Small (S), Medium (M), Large (L) and Extra Large (XL) and so on. With T-shirt measuring, the development team is made a request to evaluate whether they think a story is extra-small, small, medium, large, extra-large, or double extra-large. The card is approximately 3.5 inches high (same as the bridge card, obviously) and 2.5″ wide. Conclusion: Poker cards are about.25 inches wider than bridge cards. Now you know, and won’t have to stay up at night wondering. Incidentally, most licensed cards, such as Pepsi playing cards, are poker-sized. Bridge size cards are 57 x 89 millimeters or 2.25 by 3.5 inches while poker size cards are 64 x 89 millimeters or 2.5 by 3.5 inches. Both decks consist of 52 cards including some Jokers, but one set of cards is relatively thin compared to the other. There are two sizes of playing cards being sold today, and they are only slightly different. A poker-size deck of cards measures 2.50 inches wide, and 3.50 inches tall. A bridge-size deck of cards is 1/4 of an inch narrower, so it measures 2.25 inches wide, and 3.50 inches tall (same as a poker deck).

Bridge and poker are two of the most played card games in the world. Loads of people play these games, however not many people know the difference between poker playing cards

Before we get started with depicting the differences, we will point out some of the similarities between these two decks. Excluding the jokers as well as the extra cards, there are 52 cards in each deck for poker and bridge. Therefore, quite commonly, one can play a bridge game with a poker deck and vice versa. However, the difference creeps in as far as the dimensions are concerned.

If you were to notice closely, the bridge cards are narrower as compared to the poker cards. The simple reason is that you are required to hold the cards for a longer time in bridge games than poker games. The bridge cards are 3.5 inches long and 2.25 inches wide. On the other hand, the poker cards are also 3.5 inches long but 2.50 inches wide. In simple terms, the poker decks are a little wider than the bridge decks. These days, a majority of playing cards are available in the size of the poker deck.

Bridge decks are usually available with plastic cards. There is a specific way of caring for these cards. For an instance, you would need to maintain a constant temperature in order to store these cards. 68 – 72 degrees Fahrenheit is the most suitable temperature for such cards. After use, these cards must be placed back into their packages, with extra cards and jokers on the top to avoid warping. While cleaning these cards of sticky stuff and grime, you could use a solution of dishwashing liquid with lukewarm water as well as some drops of vinegar. Pat it dry before storing them. Avoid treating these cards with talcum powder. Plastic cards are extremely durable and would last for a few years, in the best condition. Therefore, plastic cards often turn out to be cheaper than the paper cards since they don’t have to be replaced so often.

One question that comes up a lot (at least on this website) is: What is the difference between poker playing cards and bridge playing cards?

Let’s start with discussing first what isn’t different. Both poker and bridge decks have 52 cards, plus a joker or two. So you could play poker with bridge cards, or bridge with poker cards. Generally speaking, you could play any card game that requires a standard deck of cards (unlike, say, pinochle) with either a bridge deck or a poker deck.

The difference between bridge cards and poker cards is simply one of size: poker cards are wider than bridge cards. This makes sense, if you think of how many cards you have to hold in your hand to play bridge.

Poker Size Vs Bridge Size Cards

Before we give the standard dimensions, we want to offer a word of caution. Playing card sizes can vary from accepted standards. If you use our dimensions for anything other than reading pleasure, you do so entirely at your own risk. As an example, if you construct a thousand playing card boxes and then find that your favorite playing cards don’t fit in them, we’re not responsible.

With that disclaimer out of the way, let’s see what we’ve got:

Size

Bridge card size: We measured a card from Congress’ “Three Cheers” bridge set. The card is approximately 3.5 inches high and 2.25 inches wide.

Poker card size: We measured a card used in actual play at the Riviera Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. The card is approximately 3.5 inches high (same as the bridge card, obviously) and 2.5″ wide.

Conclusion: Poker cards are about .25 inches wider than bridge cards. Now you know, and won’t have to stay up at night wondering.
