Do not force the SD card into the slot, but try pressing in a little more than you normally would to make sure it is firmly inserted into the slot. No drive icon in my computer After inserting the SD card into your card reader, if there's no drive letter in My Computer to access the SD card, the computer may be low on virtual memory.
- Look at the 1 minute 10 second point where it shows you the SD card slot & the cover that I mention above. It is on the opposite side of the volume button. Again, gently lift the cover with your finger nail & turn it out of the way. You align the cover & push it back down to conceal & protect the slot after.
- Micro SD cards from Kingston, Samsung, Sandisk, and Toshiba functioned well without any issue on both the micro SD slot 1 and 2. The team has also performed tests on large capacity (≥128GB) high speed micro SD cards from the respective and found no issues with both the micro SD slot 1 and 2.

Hello to All!
I am trying to help my Dad with his new GPS. We could not find SD or Micro SD card slot on his Nuvi 40LM.
The manual book is rubbish as it does not show where it is.
Could a kind soul here take a photo of their Nuvi 40LM to show us where the slot is?
I know it is on the left side of the GPS but I do not see the slot?

- I downloaded the manual for the nuvi 30/40/50 and could not find where the SD Card slot was either. Simply brilliant, Garmin! Here is the link to the manual:

Going by the picture on page 2 of the above manual, it seems likely it is where the 6 (contained in a circle) is pictured on the photo on the left side of the page.
So looking straight on at the unit's screen, it would appear to be on the bottom-left side of the case as you've mentioned. Remember, this is likely a microSD slot so it will be small.

It appears that the slot is where I indicated above. I'm pretty sure the contacts on the card go into the unit first. The other orientation (label side up or down) is up to you to figure out. The card will only go in one way so don't force it in. The card should also 'click' into place. - Great pic SergZak, the location is the same as my Nuvi 2460.

Make certain you have a Micro SD card, obviously a standard one would never fit in that slot.
The way my card is inserted is to insert the side with the 8 copper contact pins facing you while looking at the LCD screen. Push gently until it locks in place, DO NOT FORCE.
Your Nuvi 40LM may use a different insertion method so be careful when inserting. Another important piece of infomation missing from the Garmin Manual.
